The building once formed part of the original stables serving Winsford Tower, a Victorian stately home that once stood nearby as the centrepiece of the historic Winsford Estate.
As you approach the cottage, take a moment to look at the front door. You may notice it sits unusually high compared to a typical cottage entrance. When the building was lovingly converted into holiday accommodation, the floor level was raised by approximately 40cm, preserving part of the cottage’s fascinating past.
The section of the cottage with the two original window openings once formed a small one-bedroom dwelling where the horseman, known as the “ostler”, lived and cared for the estate’s horses. Today, this historic building has been transformed into a warm and welcoming countryside escape, blending heritage features with modern comfort.
