At the heart of Lower Winsford Farm lies one of our most treasured features – our beautiful fishing lake.

Originally created by the previous owner, John, over 25 years ago, the lake has become an integral part of the farm’s landscape. Surrounded by mature trees, wildlife, and peaceful countryside, it provides a stunning backdrop to daily life here and is one of the first things visitors fall in love with when they arrive.

Over the years, the lake has flourished naturally, becoming a thriving habitat for fish, birds, and other wildlife. One of the most exciting parts of our journey since moving to the farm has been discovering exactly what lies beneath its calm surface.

As the lake has never previously been fished, we have spent many enjoyable days investigating its hidden residents. Every outing seems to bring a new surprise. So far, we have discovered some stunning ghost carp, mirror carp and common carp, along with healthy populations of roach, perch and rudd. Just when we think we know what is in there, the lake surprises us again.

What has impressed us most is the quality and condition of the fish. They are beautifully marked, incredibly strong, and clearly thriving in their natural environment. We are passionate about protecting the lake and its inhabitants, and great care is taken whenever fish are caught. All fish are handled responsibly, returned safely to the water, and treated with the respect they deserve.

The lake is much more than a fishing destination. On warm summer days, it offers a wonderful place for a natural swim, surrounded by nothing but nature and birdsong. In the evenings, there is nowhere we would rather be than sitting in the pergola overlooking the water, enjoying a glass of wine as the sun begins to set and the countryside settles for the night.

We are incredibly proud of this beautiful part of Lower Winsford Farm and excited to share it with our guests. We will be offering pleasure fishing exclusively for guests staying at the farm and look forward to welcoming fellow anglers to experience the lake for themselves.
